Objectives of Bihar Har Ghar Bijli Scheme

The main objective of the Har Ghar Bijli scheme is to provide free electricity connection to every family in the state. Family which do not yet have electricity connection will be covered under this scheme. The state government has set a target of providing electricity connections to 50 lakh households under the Har Ghar Bijli scheme. The Har Ghar Bijli scheme was the last of the 7 schemes to be launched under the Saat Nishchay Scheme. About 50% of APL (above poverty line) families in rural Bihar who do not have electricity connection will be covered under the free electricity connection scheme. The BPL families in the state are already being covered under the Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Gram Jyoti Scheme of the Central Government.
